“Definitions of Professional Terminology”
Ironstone China
Traditionally made in the Staffordshire Potteries in England during
the mid 19th Century.
A number of factories produced this product , probably the most
famous being Mason’s China, owned by one Miles Mason.
Ironstone “ china” was predominately and extensively used for tableware, although decorative items were produced, the decoration of said items usually followed a similar theme of stylised foliage and contemporary scenes painted from a strong and vibrant palate.
By definition ironstone identifies as hard white opaque
stoneware made by adding glassy slag to the mix.
